EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

中野はなごやかな笑みを浮かべて近寄った。
nakano wa nagoyakana emi o ukabete chikayotta.
Nakano drew near with his sweet smile.

つまり、この近辺に身を潜めているということだ。
tsumari, kono kinpen ni mi o hisomete iru to iu koto da.
Which means, he’s still hiding somewhere close by.

毬つきなら池の近くでするんじゃないぞ!
maritsuki nara ike no chikaku de surun janai zo.
If you’re going to play with your ball, don’t play near the lake!

指紋があったとしても、少ししか役に立たないでしょう。近頃の犯人は、めったなヘマはやりませんからね。
shimon ga atta to shite mo, sukoshi shika yaku ni tatanai deshou. chikagoro no hannin wa, metta na hema wa yarimasen kara ne.

彼女は、近眼らしい目つきで、眼鏡の中からわたしを眺めたが、しかし、ひどく落ち着いていた。
kanojo wa, kingan rashii metsuke de, megane no naka kara watashi o nagameta ga, shikashi, hidoku ochitsuite ita.
She peered short-sightedly at me through her glasses, but was quite calm.

Kyoto is a a city which still embodies the ethos of pre-modern Japan, as it is one of the last places where the traditional wooden townhouses known as machiya can still be seen.
