Formation:

Verb-casual + 手前
Noun + の手前

Example sentences:

線路の手前を左に曲がってください。
Please turn left in front of the railway track.
senro no temae o hidari ni magatte kudasai.

 

約束した手前、たとえ雪が降っても行かないわけにはいかない。
Since I’ve made a promise, I must go even if it snows.
yakusoku shita temae, tatoe yuki ga futte mo ikanai wake niwa ikanai.

 

生徒達の手前、この言葉を知らないとは言えない。
I can’t admit that I don’t know this word in front of my students.
