Meaning: so-called, so to speak

Formation:

いわゆる + Noun

Example sentences:

でも、あの人もいわゆるまともなくちじゃないだろう?
That person’s not what you’d call normal though, is he?
demo, ano hito mo iwayuru matomo na kuchi janai darou.

 

野菜やポテトはいわゆる健康食品だ。
Vegetables or potatos are so-called healthy foods.
yasai ya poteto wa iwayuru kenkou shokuhin da.

 

本作は、放送日前にすべての撮影を終えている、いわゆる「事前製作ドラマ」だ。
This drama finished shooting before airing started. In other words, it’s a “a pre-produced drama.”
honsaku wa, housoubi mae ni subete no satsuei o oete iru, iwayuru ‘jizen seisaku dorama’ da.
