Example sentences:

電車が着くが早いか、乗客は先を競って乗り込んだ。
As soon as the train arrived, the passengers fought their way in.
densha ga tsuku ga hayai ka, joukyaku wa saki o kisotte norikonda.

 

彼女は手紙を取り上げるが早いか、封を切った。
She snatched the letter and tore it open.
kanojo wa tegami o toriageru ga hayai ka, fuu o kitta.

 

わたしの顔を見るが早いか、彼はしゃべりはじめた。
He started talking as soon as he saw me.
watashi no kao o omiru ga hayai ka, kare wa shaberi hajimeta.

 

授業終了のベルを聞くが早いか、生徒たちは教室を飛び出していった。
As soon as the bell that marked the end of the lesson rang, the students rushed out of the classroom.
jugyou shuuryou no beru o kiku ga hayai ka, seitotachi wa kyoushitsu o tobidashite itta.

 

先生が地震だと叫ぶが早いか、子供たちは机の下にもぐりこんだ。
The kids crawled under the table as soon as the teacher shouted “Earthquake.”

うちの子はいつも学校から帰るが早いか、遊びに行ってしまう。
My kid always goes out to play as soon as he returns home from school.

That person always tries to get a seat as soon as he gets into the train.

Sure enough, as soon as they took charge, Associated fell into the tank.

彼は消灯帽に別れの一ねじりを与えたがそのとたんに手がゆるみ、ようやくのことで寝床の中へすべり込むが早いか、深い眠りに落ちこんだ。
He gave the cap a parting squeeze, in which his hand relaxed; and had barely time to reel to bed, before he sank into a heavy sleep.
kare wa shoutoubou ni wakare no ichi nejiri o ataeta ga sono totan ni te ga yurumi, youyaku no koto de nedoko no naka e suberikomu ga hayai ka, fukai nemuri ni ochikonda.

And as soon as Miyuki had gone out of the door, he went to the cupboard again and poured out another half-glass.
soshite, miyuki ga doa no kage ni kieru ga hayai ka, mata todana no soba e itte, sara ni hai ni hanbun hodo guito aotta.

 

彼は人垣を押しわけて通った。しかし、ユキコはただ罵声を浴びせるだけでそう簡単に釈放してやりたくなかったらしく、テーブルの上のコップをつかむが早いか、ひと振り振りまわして、イツキ目がけて投げつけた。
