Meaning: because, on account of => negative result

Formation:

Verb-casual, past + ばかりに
いadjective + ばかりに
なadjective + な/である + ばかりに
Noun + ばかりに

Example sentences:

ちょっとした油断をしたばかりに、大怪我をしてしまった。
chottoshita yudan o shita bakari ni, ookega o shite shimatta.
I suffered serious injuries because I was careless.

物価は上がるばかりに、生活は少し楽にならない。
bukka wa agaru bakari ni, seikatsu wa sukoshi raku ni naranai.
Because the prices go up, my life is not getting any easier.

お金がないばかりに、今度の旅行には行けなかったのです。
okane ga nai bakari ni, kondo no ryokou niwa ikenakatta no desu.
I can’t travel this time because I have no money.

彼は競馬に熱中したばかりに、財産を全部失った。
kare wa keiba ni necchuu shita bakari ni, zaisan o zenbu ushinatta.
He lost his whole fortune because of his addiction to horse racing.

仕事の経験が少ないばかりに、就職口がなかなか見つからない。
shigoto no keiken ga sukunai bakari ni, shuushokuguchi ga mitsukaranai.
I can’t find a job opportunity because of my lack of experience.
