Meaning: leaving (something) on, leaving (something) still in use

Formation:

Verb-stem + っぱなし

Example sentences:

窓を開けっぱなしで出かけた。
mado o akeppanashi de dekaketa.
I left home with the windows open.

電車が混んでいて、東京まで立ちっぱなしだった。
densha ga konde ite, toukyou made tachippanashi datta.
The train was crowded so I had to stand all the way to Tokyo.

二人は開けっぱなしのドアの方に進んだ。
futari wa akeppanashi no doa no hou ni susunda.
The two of them walked towards the wide open door.

水を出しっぱなしにしないでください。
mizu o dashippanashi ni shinaide kudasai.
Please don’t leave the water running.

テレビをつけっぱなしで寝てしまった。
terebi o tsukeppanashi de nete shimatta.
I fell asleep without turning the TV off.

その蛇口、壊れっぱなしよ。
sono jaguchi, kowareppanashi yo.
That faucet is still broken.
