Meaning: what is… again?

We use particle っけ to indicate that the speaker is trying to recall some information.

Formation:

Verb-casual, past + っけ
Noun + だっけ/だったっけ
いadj + かったっけ
なadj + だっけ/だったっけ

Example sentences:

彼が何て言ったっけ?
What did he say again?
kare ga nante itta ke.

 

明日のパーティーのこと、話したっけ?
Did I tell you about the party tomorrow?
ashita no paatii no koto, hanashitakke?

 

自己紹介したっけ?
Did I introduce myself?
jikoshoukai shitakke.

 

国へ帰るのは、来週だったっけ?
You’re returning to your country next week, right?
kuni e kaeru nowa, raishuu dattakke?

 

あなたの誕生日、いつだっけ?
When was your birthday again?
anata no tanjoubi, itsu dakke.

 

誰が僕たちに会いにくるって言ったっけ?
Who did you say would come to meet us?
dare ga bokutachi ni ai ni kuru tte ittakke.

 

今日は何曜日でしたっけ?
What was the date today again?
kyou wa nanyoubi deshitakke.

 

夢を見た日はいつだって言ったっけ?
When did you say you saw that dream again?
yume o mita hi wa itsu datte ittakke.

 

あれ、わたし、さっき眼鏡をどこに置いたっけ?
Where did I put my glasses?
are, watashi, sakki megane o doko ni oitakke.

 

あれ、僕言わなかったっけ?
I haven’t told you?
are, boku iwanakattakke.

 

そういえば、サンタさんがもうすぐ来るわね。何が欲しいか、おばちゃんに教えてくれたっけ?
You know, Santa’s gonna be coming soon. Have you told your aunty what you want?
sou ieba, santasan ga mou sugu kuru wa ne. nani ga hoshii ka, obachan ni oshiete kuretakke.

チケットはどうしたかしら?あなたが持っていたんだったっけ、それとも私?
What about the tickets? Did you have them with you or did I?
chiketto wa dou shita kashira. anata ga motte itan dattakke, soretomo watashi.

 

蝶を最後に見たのはいつのことだっけと私は考えてみた。
I tried to remember when I had last seen butterflies.
chou o saigo ni mita no wa itsu no koto dakke to watashi wa kangaete mita.

 

もう一度見たいところだったけれどね。いやいや、われながらなんてばかなこと言ってるんだ!そのためにこそお前は行ったんだっけね、あれを始末しにさ?
I should have liked to see it again. But no, how silly of me! That’s what you went for, wasn’t it: to get rid of it?
mou ichido mitai tokoro datta keredo ne. iyaiya, warenagara nante baka na koto itterun da. sono tame ni koso omae wa ittan dakke ne, are o shimatsu shi ni sa.

 

うっかりしてたけど、寝室のドアを開けたとき、なにかが見えた、ときみは言っていたっけ?
I forget whether you said you saw anything when you opened your chamber door.
ukkari shiteta kedo, shinshitsu no doa o aketa toki, nanika ga mieta, to kimi wa itte itakke.

 

あの男の子、なんていいましたっけ?あの青年の現われ方は少々唐突でしたけどね。
That boy, what’s his name? He turned up rather unexpectedly.
ano otoko no ko, nante iimashitakke. ano seinen no arawarekata wa shoushou toutotsu deshita kedo ne.

 

お邪魔して恐縮です。それから、さっきのなんでしたっけ、あのことを忘れずに警察にお知らせになってくださいよ。
Forgive me for bothering you, and, what was it again, please don’t forget to let the police know about that.
ojama shite kyoushuku desu. sore kara, sakki no nan deshitakke, ano koto o wasurezu ni keisatsu ni oshirase ni natte kudasai yo.

 

英国流に表現すると、靴をちがった足にはくと申すのでしたっけね。
The boot is on the other foot, is that how you say it in English?
eikokuryuu ni hyougen suru to, kutsu o chigatta ashi ni haku to mousu no deshitakke ne.

 

すばらしい!それはそうと、話はどこまでいったっけ?
How wonderful! But where were we?
subarashii. sore wa sou to, hanashi wa doko made ittakke.

 

ところであなたとどこで会ったんだっけな?
By the way, how did we meet?
tokoro de anata to doko de attan dakke na.
