Meaning: being the case; precisely because

Formation:

Verb-casual + だけに
Noun + (である)だけに
いadj + だけに
なadj + だけに

Example sentences:

この品物は品質がよいだけに値段も高い。
kono shinamono wa hinshitsu ga yoi dake ni nedan mo takai.
This product’s quality is good so it’s expensive.

期待が大きかっただけに、落選とわかったときの失望も大きかった。
kitai ga ookikatta dake ni, rakusen to wakatta toki no shitsubou mo ookikatta.
Because I expected too much, I was so disappointed when I was rejected.

成績が悪いだけに、人一倍努力するよりほかはない。
seiseki ga warui dake ni, hito ichibai doryoku suru yori hoka wa nai.
Because my grades are bad, I have to work harder than others.

試験のために一生懸命勉強しただけに、不合格のショックは大きかった。
shiken no tame ni isshoukenmei benkyou shita dake ni, fugoukaku no shokku wa ookikatta.
I studied very hard for the exam, so I was so shocked when I heard that I failed.
