Formation:

Verb-casual, past + あげく(に)
Noun + のあげく(に)

Example sentences:

どの大学に入ろうかと、さんざん悩んだあげく、京都大学に決めた。
After thinking it over carefully about which university to enter, I decided on Kyoto University.
dono daigaku ni hairou ka to, sanzan nayanda ageku, kyouto daigaku ni kimeta.

 

彼らは夫婦げんかを繰り返したあげくに、とうとう離婚した。
After fighting for numerous times, they finally got a divorce.
karera wa fuufu genka o kurikaeshita ageku ni, toutou rikon shita.

 

このチケットは8時間並んだあげくにやっと手にいれたものだ。
I finally got this ticket after lining for 8 hours.
kono chiketto wa hachi jikan naranda ageku ni yatto te ni ireta mono da.

 

さんざんお酒を飲んだあげくに、健康を害してしまった。
I ended up ruining my health after drinking too much alcohol.
sanzan osake o nonda ageku ni, kenkou o gaishite shimatta.

 

わたしを呼びつけたあげく、またあいつに逃げられたと言うのか?
You called me back to tell me that he has escaped again?
watashi o yobitsuketa ageku, mata aitsu ni nigerareta to iu no ka.

 

さんざん迷ったあげく卒業後は帰国することにした。
After a lot of hesitation, I decided to return to my country after I graduate.
sanzan mayotta ageku sotsugyougo wa kikoku suru koto ni shita.

 

一時間探したあげく、あの本はなくなってしまったと結論するしかなくなった。
After searching for an hour, he was forced to conclude that the book was gone.

He paid me a brief visit, and after taking a good look at me he went off again.

三日間も交渉を続けたあげくに、そのまま立ち去るつもりか?
Are you going to just walk away after negotiating for three days?
mikkakan mo koushou o tsuzuketa ageku ni, sono mama tachisaru tsumori ka.

 

彼は、請求書を送るのを忘れていて申しわけなかったなどとこっけいな弁解をくだくだしく述べたあげく、しきりと口ごもっていると思ったらやぶからぼうに、私は彼と結婚すればいいのだといった。
After making various ridiculous excuses for failing to send a proper bill, he hummed and hawed a good deal and suddenly suggested I should marry him.
kare wa, seikyuusho o okuru no o wasurete ite moushi wake nakatta nado to kokkei na benkai o kudakudashiku nobeta ageku, shikiri to kuchigomotte iru to omottara yabukarabou ni, watashi wa kare to kekkon sureba ii no da to itta.
