Meaning: as if; as though

Formation:

Phrase + とばかりに

Example sentences:

あなたときたら自分以外の者はどうでもいいとばかりに、しゃべりまくるんですもの、きいていてうんざりするわ。
anata tokitara jibun igai no mono wa dou demo ii to bakari ni, shaberi makurun desu mono, kiite ite unzari suru wa.
It makes me sick to hear you talk and talk as though nobody mattered but you.

彼はお話にもならないとばかりに、肩をすくめてみせた。
kare wa ohanashi nimo naranai to bakari ni, kata o sukumete miseta.
He shrugged his shoulder as if to say that’s out of the question.

相手のチームに負けたのは山本さんのせいとばかりに、コーチは厳しく彼をしかった。
aite no chiimu ni maketa nowa yamamotosan no sei to bakari ni, koochi wa kibishiku kare o shikatta.
The coach scolded Yamamoto as if the team lost because of him.

彼は出て行けとばかりに、ドアを開けた。
kare wa dete ike to bakari ni, doa o aketa.
He opened the door as if to tell me to get out.

一つも買いそこねたくない、とばかりに彼女はどれも少しずつ買って、1万円を払った。
hitotsu mo kaisokonetakunai, to bakari ni kanojo wa doremo sukoshi zutsu katte, ichiman’en o haratta.
Not wanting to miss anything, she bought some of everything and paid 10.000 yen.

彼は驚いて、こんな事は承知できないとばかりに身をこわばらせた。
kare wa odoroite, konna koto wa shouchi dekinai to bakari ni mi o kowabaraseta.
He froze in an attitude of stunned disapproval.

彼は、わたしに早く帰れとばかりに、書類を片付けはじめた。
kare wa, watashi ni hayaku kaere to bakari ni, shorui o katazuke hajimeta.
He started tidying up his documents as if to tell me to leave.
